The Old Guy I bought the van from took the time to hang it onto the brake master cylinder with a piece of wire, so I thought perhaps it was some sort of tool.

I’m not sure if it’s a tool because it doesn’t have any hard edges like a hex to grip a bolt, although it could have been rounded or maybe it’s for a hose or something.

I sent the picture to an Old Guy that I correspond with and he thinks it’s part of a girdle strap buckle. I think I agree that it’s a clasp of some sort, but it’s too big and heavy and iron to belong to clothing. More likely, I’d guess, some sort of retainer strap or cargo strap, but not having anything to do with anything under the hood.
It’s a mystery.
